(Evangelion 1.0 Preview) The First of Gainex’s 4 Part Revial of the Angels

If you have never seen one of history’s most well known animes, well this will be a great time to start.

Introducing Evangelion 1.0

If you you don’t know yet the movie/remake of Evangelion is already out in the land of the rising sun Japan, and has been for over 172 days, in easier to understand terms its been out for over 5 months. While its taken a long time to arrive in Singapore i’m glad it did, it’s a sign that the movie industry here is taking animation as a serious media and not some Saturday morning cartoon affair for the children.

Evangelion will always have a special place in my heart as the first real “Anime” i’ve ever watched, don’t get me wrong when i was young i grew up with Grendaizer, Getter Robo, Magziner etc, but Evangelion was the first anime where i truly understood that what i was watching was called anime and not a cartoon. It also put me on the path of the otaku.

So whats installed in this movie remake of an old old classic you ask ?

Basically the 1st part of the movie contains the 1st 6 episodes of the original Evangelion anime series, with some seriously tuned up graphics and all the glitter you can throw on it. The story has been tweaked to fit all 6 21mins episodes into the 90+ minutes the show runs for, some reviews out there call this version a dumb down version but i will reserved my judgement until after the 13th of March (thats when the screening starts), besides calling Evangelion 1.0 dumb down is like calling the Lord of the Rings movies a short summery of the novels, and we all know how popular they were.

As for Gainex’s shameless milking of a 12+ year old series………… you know what i actually approve of it whole heartedly, kids these days are always Gundam Seed this and Gundam Seed Destiny that screw those shows except for a few awesome gundam fights in those 2 animes there wasn’t anything much in them, now heres a chance to finally watch one of the granddaddies of all mecha animes and learn that Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny series are not the world.

So the verdict currently is go watch it. If you’ve already watched Evangelion go watch it for the supped up graphics and for the refresher course, if you’ve never watched it before please go get yourself cultured and watch the movie and if your a fan i don’t really need to tell you anything now do i ???
