Ok……. i just got back from watching “L Change the World” and frankly i have to say that it………… (hold breath for suspense) utterly and totally SUCKS!!!! Is that a “How much does it suck ???” i heard in the background, well let me elaborate.

As you know Death Note fans are split into 3 categories, the master race of manga readers who god loves and watches over, the repentant anime goers though guilty of sin are on their way to salvation in god’s loving arms and then theres the filthy unwashed blasphemers who have only watched the Death Note movies “Death Note” & “Death Note: The Last Name”. And frankly speaking “L Change the world” is a failure in the eyes of all the 3 above mentioned category of people.

If you have read or watched any of the media or literature (while some what being able to comprehend what you were reading/watching) before watching “L Change the World” you will know that the draw of this series was the conflict between Kira and L in their game of survival “Outwit, Outsmart, Outplay”, if that was the reason you fell in love with the show good for you god has taken you into consideration, and if your watching this movie for more of that well i am sorry your in for one hell of a smack in the face.

Not only do they not feature L doing detective work on the case they turn him into some sort of mission operative where he goes running about trying to dodge the bad guys instead of doing what he does best “solving cases”. Like a fish out of water this one fatal flaw causes the movie to flounder.

“But L is so cute in this movie” you say ??? Well yeah i do have to admit that L is placed in some really awkward situation (well awkward to him), where he has to dig deep into his chest with a wooden spoon and pull out some human emotions. But thats just it, its cute and thats all the show had going for it pure hardcore fan services, and if the world started giving kudos to movies based on that, i would rather write “Oceanmoon dies 10 secs from now and is born in another world where story, plot development and character interaction were all important in which ever media i was engaged in.” in the Death Note and pray for 10 secs that the death note actually allows revival.

I am trying not to give away anything from the story hence the rant/review (sort of), in case you people reading this want to prove me wrong and actually try watching the show.

My advice for the master race of manga readers save the money and spend it getting the novel at least it will make you feel smarter, for the anime viewers on the path of salvation go buy the manga books and read them, and for the blasphemers for god sakes save the money and time and go watch the anime or read the manga and get a true feel of the whole story.

Have a very 萌萌 day people.

PS: If you guys want a proper review with some spoilers and all read it here. I’m going to bed…………

  1. I wish I could have saw it all the same. I wasn’t expecting much, since there is no manga to back it up. I heard the novel at least has some interesting plots?
Unfortunately I can’t get that either. Nothing here in the US.

  2. Your three categories of Death Note fans, while -I hope- meant jokingly, was a rather arrogant and elitist statement.

  3. I actually agree with your 3 categories and unfortunaly with your review

  4. Agreed… I’m a tad disgusted by all the positive feedback this movie is receiving. (four out of five stars, etc.) Not even a famous horror-genre director could save this flick from the bad acting and filming the last two movies suffered from. This shit was sooo hard for me to sit through. You have to be enthraled by every ‘cutsie’ gesture Kenichi makes in order to like – scratch that – OMG **LUV** this movie!!!hehe! ^_^

  5. Movie was ok for me. I didn’t know he could ride a bike or drive a plane, so those were new for me. Anyway, L wasn’t really as smart as they exaggerated him to be in the anime. Seriously, writing your name on the DeathNote than burning it? That was from his own vengeance. Anyway, did anyone else found the part where he put on his mask and started typing hilarious?

  6. haha. i agree. :)

  7. Unfortunately this was poor fan-fic at best. The squealing fangirls in the theater were more of an entertaining distraction than the movie was. L was played for laughs, The “science” was down right retarded and on more than one occasion I prayed that Ryuk would swoop in and decapitate L so we could end this tripe early. No where nearly as intelligent as it’s predecessors, do where close to the kind of intensity the series deserves and last but not least no Shinigami… no fun.

  8. Aye, god loves and watches over me… XD

I have to say — all three movies seriously suck. They didn’t possess any of the appeal that the manga had to draw me in. Everything completely leaned on L’s side. I do like L, but I like Light too, and the entire series is about a battle of wits and ‘who is good and who is evil?’ but in these three movies, it obviously leaned towards L as the ‘good guy’. Megaphail.

  9. I loved this movie, my new favorite. ^^
