If you haven’t watched the Death Note movie, Anime or read the manga. You probably should, not just because its a great series but also if you haven’t some of the characters in this movie might not make sense to you. Also this perview will contain some spoilers from the pass media so don’t say i didn’t warn you.

Well I’m sure that almost everyone has already heard about the new and up coming movie spin off based on the sweet loving, anti social boarder line psychotic genius detective “L” from the Death Note series. This preview comes with great slowness as the movie is stated to be released on the 9th of Feb 2008 in Japan, but what the hey even if its one day before the movie is out a preview is still a preview.

The story takes place after the L’s victory over Kira (キラ) a.k.a Yagami Raito (夜神　月) (Movie version a.k.a “The Last Name”). And the story is based on L’s last 23 days of life. Remember that scene in “The Last Name” where L dies a peaceful death? The story takes place between his victory and his death which apparently is 23 days. So what you watched in “The Last Name” was really the ending for 2 movies crazy huh……

From what I gathered from the trailers it seems that L’s last case involves him stopping a disease from spreading through out the whole world. And from the trailer it seems that L is not contented to just sit in his stronghold of solitude anymore opting to travel around and even run (in a very very humorous way might i add (classic L)). Along with some familiar faces like Misa Misa and shinigami Ryuku, how they will fit into the story will be unveiled when the movie screens i guess.

According to sources in order to create the story, producers turned to a well known author Hideo Nakata (中田 秀夫　＝　Nakata Hideo,), who at the time had not yet read the original work.

I really want this movie to be a fantastic show, but tell me now when has a spin off movie base upon a movie which is a light adaptation of a manga series (are you confused yet???) ever a good idea for a movie adding in the fact that the director has never read Tsugumi Oba’s (大場 つぐみ = Oba Tsugumi) work, this doesn’t bode well for the movie but then again a fresh induction of new ideas might be a good thing and in the end all we can do is hope and wait until the movie is released.

To further ride the Death Note Train there was a new novel released last year Christmas based on the movie. Apparently like with any novel which is based on the movie or vice verse, it contains scenes that the movie doesn’t so for those of you proficient enough to read Japanese books do pick it up, but you might want to buy it after watching the movie or not the choice is yours.
